(PLEASE READ ALL REQUIRMENTS BEFORE REGISTERING FOR THE COURSE)

Medical Assistant Course Description

GTC offers a certification as a Comprehensive Medical Assistant Course. This is a 14 week program where students attend the first 9 weeks online at their own pace and then come into the school during week 9 to complete lab, Monday through Friday, 1pm to 5pm. Students must also complete a 160 hour externship at a doctors office, hospital or urgent care in order to receive a certificate of completion. Our MA course is a comprehensive course which means we teach both front and back office procedures so that our students are prepared to work in various settings. After successful completion of the program, students will qualify to sit for national testing with NHA-National Healthcareer Association and NCCT-National Center for Competency Testing and receive a certification in either: NCMOA (National Certified Medical Office Assistant) or NCMA (National Certified Medical Assistant) certification.

A medical assistant is a professional who performs both administrative and routine clinical tasks in a medical setting. Medical assistants commonly work in physicians' offices, outpatient clinics, hospitals, assisted living facilities and private and government-run health centers. While many of a medical assistant's job duties focus on the administrative and clerical needs of their facility, these professionals frequently take on clinical responsibilities as well, like assisting medical practitioners during routine clinical exams.
